What is the T.E.A.M. program at NJIT?

  • T.E.A.M. stands for Transition, Engagement, Access, & Mentorship. It is designed to support students through workshops, academic guidance, and community engagement to help them navigate NJIT and stay on track toward graduation.

Who is eligible to participate in T.E.A.M.?

  • While T.E.A.M. offers resources accessible to the broader student body, primary priority is given to Pell-eligible students, Newark local first-time undergraduates, transfer students, and students looking for additional academic/financial guidance.

Does it cost anything to join or access T.E.A.M. services?

  • No, all T.E.A.M. programs, mentoring sessions, and workshops are completely free for Undergraduate NJIT students.

How does the T.E.A.M. mentorship program work?

  • Students are eligible for -on-1 guidance with their success coach, share personal strategies for navigating NJIT, and help set manageable academic and career goals.

What is success coaching, and how is it different from academic advising?

  • Academic advisors focus on course selection and major requirements. T.E.A.M. success coaches focus on holistic growth—helping you build study habits, manage time/stress, navigate campus life, and connect with campus support services.

How often will I meet with my mentor or success coach?

  • Meeting schedules are flexible, but participants typically check in bi-weekly or monthly, depending on individual goals and schedules. However, it is your choice on how often and you are not required to meet. 

What kinds of workshops does T.E.A.M. offer?

  • T.E.A.M. hosts interactive sessions on time management, effective study techniques, financial literacy/debt management, resume building, and career exploration.

Can T.E.A.M. help me find tutoring or academic support on campus?

  • Yes. T.E.A.M. currently provides supplemental tutoring to first year and transfer students after connecting with respective departments on campus. 

How can T.E.A.M. assist with financial concerns or federal debt management?

  • T.E.A.M. partners with Financial Aid and campus advisement units to host workshops and 1-on-1 consultations aimed at understanding aid packages, managing student debt, and finding scholarship opportunities.

How do I sign up for the T.E.A.M. program?

  • TEAM isn't something that you have to sign up for. If you are in one of the priority populations you will see your Success Coach on Navigate.

Can I become a student mentor for T.E.A.M.?

  • Yes! Upperclassmen in good academic standing can apply to become peer mentors, gaining valuable leadership and professional development experience.
